Story

Welcome to the DC Trailblazers fundraising site!

The Mighty Moose Fun Run/Walk is an annual event that raises funds to support critical research to advance the early detection of ovarian cancer, when this disease is most treatable.

Each year, 20,000 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer in the US alone. In its first five years, The Mighty Moose has raised over $1.25mm dollars to support the ovarian cancer research of Dr. Kevin Elias of Brigham & Women's Hospital. Progress is being made on novel testing strategies for ovarian cancer early detection.

The Mighty Moose is held in memory of Jenna Swaim, a loving mother and wife from Concord, Massachusetts, who lost her courageous four year battle to ovarian cancer on July 3, 2018. She was 43 years old. The name of the event is inspired by Jenna’s Alaskan roots, love for fun, and strength!

We created a team in DC to host a “Mini Moose” on September 29 at 10am in Rock Creek Park for a casual hike/walk.

All the money we raise will go towards critically important ovarian cancer research led by Dr. Kevin Elias, who specializes in gynecologic oncology research at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston and is affiliated with the Dana Farber Cancer Institute as well. Dr. Elias and his team of researchers have identified a groundbreaking new process to detect ovarian cancer at its earliest stages. The initial results of Dr. Elias’ research are incredibly promising!
